A win for West Ham against Manchester United will see the Hammers gain crucial ground on Chelsea in the race for Champions League football. If David Moyes’ side lose then the race will become one of holding off the opposition for a place in the Europe League.

Here are the GSH’s writers predictions for the match:

Justin: Manchester United 1-1 West Ham

When West Ham and Man United met in the reverse fixture earlier this season, United did not start some of their top players, including Bruno Fernandes. West Ham dominated the first 60 minutes of the match, led 1-0 at halftime, and probably should have put the game away in the first half.

United just had a hard battle against AC Milan in the Europa League, with Antony Martial playing a whole half of football and Bruno playing 75 minutes. Marcus Rashford is most likely out with an injury. All in all, West Ham, with added rest and United either missing their best players or having them a bit fatigued, should be in a position to get a result in this one. I see a draw occurring here, especially as United have actually struggled at home this season.

Jack: Manchester United 1-2 West Ham

We weren’t the best against Leeds and in fact, we were lucky to not be 2-0 down within 10 minutes! If we start the same way against Man United then it will not end well at all. That being said, we are learning to win ugly now and the players knew that they didn’t play very well, so I’m sure they will step it up for this game.

It will be a very tough game, even more so considering United beat City 2-0 in their last game. We cannot afford to be complacent and we will have to be on it from the get-go if we are to get a result from this game.

We will be without Jesse Lingard as he’s not allowed to play against his parent club but hopefully, Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen can step up in his absence. If we get the first goal and don’t get complacent, there is no reason why we can get a result this Sunday.

The boys will also be looking to get revenge on United for knocking us out of the cup which is why I think West Ham will win 2-1.

With Manchester United coming off a difficult Europa League fixture and injuries to key players, West Ham are in a prime position to get a result.

Lou: Manchester United 1-1 West Ham

We got back to winning ways against Leeds on Monday, and this is a good opportunity to pick up another point or three. This game is sandwiched in between two Europa League ties against AC Milan so United will no doubt be slightly leggy from Thursday’s fixture whilst still having on eye on the return leg next week.

There are also injury concerns for Rashford, Martial and Cavani, which is arguably their first-choice front three when fit. We’ll obviously be without Lingard which will be a big miss but we certainly have options who can come in for this game to take his place. Whilst we should be aiming for a win here, a draw wouldn’t be a bad result away at Old Trafford.

Alex: Manchester United 2-1 West Ham

The Hammers have got to go to Old Trafford with the same spirit that was shown in the defeat versus Man City. I think Moyes should revert to the back five and the tactics used in that game. It makes us hard to break down defensively and allows us to counter-attack at pace.

I’m hopeful for a draw especially given United’s injuries and the confidence we should have. However, I think they will just edge it despite West Ham giving another positive performance.

Ioan: Manchester United 1-1 West Ham

Despite their form, Manchester United are between two European match weeks and that is as good of timing to play any of the high flying teams in the league. We have no fixture congestion and I trust Moyes to formulate a plan to put at least a point on the board.
