GSH Predictions: West Ham To Complete Double Over Leeds?
By Justin Wasik
West Ham take on Leeds at the London Stadium as they aim to pull off the double over the promoted side and keep pace with the top four.
Justin: West Ham 2-1 Leeds United
Similar to the reverse fixture at Elland Road, this Leeds match will be a tough one for the Hammers. Leeds are one of the more inconsistent, but also exciting teams in the division. They have scored the 4th-most goals so far this season while also giving up tied for the 2nd-most goals themselves.
Leeds struggled against the Hammers on set pieces, something they have improved upon since these two met. However, I do see West Ham sneaking in a goal from a set-piece as we have not done so in a few games.
It should be an up-and-down match, but I anticipate our defence to be up to the challenge to keep the likes of Raphina and Patrick Bamford quiet on Monday night. Furthermore, West Ham have yet to lose after a loss in any competition this season. 2-1 to the Irons.
Scott: West Ham 2-1 Leeds United
The Hammers are chasing European football and are one of the most efficient sides in the league. A great combination of talent and strength throughout and I don’t think Leeds have the tools to match us over 90 minutes.
Not that I think Leeds are bad, I just think that at the moment they’re a bit plan A or bust. And with a massive advantage to be exposed on set pieces, I think that West Ham will take this match the same scoreline they did in the reverse fixture. If you’re the betting sort, I would be tempted to put money on West Ham to score headed goals in the match.
In what is one of the biggest games for West Ham as a club for some time, our Green St. experts think the Hammers will pull off the double over Leeds.
Jay: West Ham 3-1 Leeds United
After a tough loss against the best team in the Premier League, I am fully expecting the Hammers to bounce back in a crucial match against Leeds. The Irons will feel the pressure of the teams in and around the top of the table, and will put in a great performance against Leeds. Antonio, Soucek, and Bowen grab the goals as the Hammers collect all 3 points!
Alex: West Ham 2-1 Leeds United
After a great performance last week versus Man City, I’m really looking forward to this one. Leeds play such fantastic pressing and attacking football but it could play with our counter-attacks.
Hopefully, Moyes returns to a back four and lets the pace of Antonio, Lingard, and company hurt them. As we saw in the first fixture, we can also exploit Leeds’ set-piece frailties. I expect them to score but hoping we can get what would be a big win.
Jack: West Ham 3-1 Leeds United
After some results going against us this week, West Ham have now dropped to 6th place, but a win over Leeds would restore us back to 4th. We played well against Leeds at Elland Road and fought back to grab all three points. It will be a tough game as always but with our current form, I think we have a good chance of completing a double over Leeds.
Marcelo Bielsa will no doubt have been planning and preparing for this game and we can be sure that Leeds will be tactically prepared as always.
However, if we play our way and sneak in an early goal, I see us taking all three points. It’s a big game that we must win if we want to keep our Champions League dreams alive and I think the importance will push the squad on.
