Contract Clause Sees West Ham Target’s Value Rise
West Ham are set to be in the striker market in the summer transfer window and have had some bad news regarding one of their top targets. Adam Armstrong has been linked with a move to the Hammers since January after an impressive season in the Championship.
It had been believed that the striker’s price would have been in the range of £15-£17 million, but now the price is much higher. Blackburn will have to sacrifice 40 per cent of any fee they receive of Armstrong’s transfer to Newcastle due to a sell-on clause in his contract.
This clause has seen his price receive a large increase as Blackburn still want to receive their fair share of income. It has been reported that the asking price for the striker is now £25 million. This value puts him in the same price bracket as Championship leading scorer Ivan Toney, Sevilla hitman Yossuf En-Nesyri and SK Slavia Prague wonderkid Abdallah Sima.
West Ham have been handed a setback in their pursuit of one of the most deadly strikers in the Championship.
The asking price could still be considered optimistic by the Lancashire club. Armstrong’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2022 season, and if they keep hold of him, Blackburn will risk losing him for nothing.
Armstong is believed to be one of West Ham’s top striker targets in the summer. Tony Cottee has even suggested that plans are already underway to securing his signature once the transfer window reopens.
The Hammers currently only have Michail Antonio as the club’s only senior striker, and even he has been converted from a winger. The Blackburn striker would be a great option for David Moyes next season if signed by the club. Armstrong combines pace and power despite his small stature.
The Englishman has netted 20 goals and three assists in 34 appearances in all competitions this season. Armstrong is ready to make the step up to the Premier League, but whether he is worth £25 million will not be known until he is in the top division.
