West Ham Legend Suggests Two Strikers Could Be Signed In Summer
West Ham legend Tony Cottee has suggested that the club could sign two strikers in the summer transfer window in order to reinforce the frontline. The Hammers were looking to sign a forward in the January transfer window after selling Sebastien Haller. David Moyes, however, chose to wait as he wanted to sign the right forward.
Cottee has praised the job Moyes has done regarding transfers. The Scottish manager has brought in some excellent talent such as Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal, Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma, Craig Dawson and Jesse Lingard, none of which have broken the bank.
The club still needs a striker, and Cottee has suggested that Adam Armstrong is high up Moyes’ list of targets. Cottee has also hinted that the club may make more than one striker signing this summer.
"“His signings are remarkable and he will need to find a way of signing Jesse Lingard who has been remarkable whilst I fully expect a move for Blackburn’s Adam Armstromg who is a 5ft 8in front man along with a bigger more physical type.”Tony Cottee on David Moyes transfer plans."
West Ham could be chasing two strikers this summer to add some more firepower to their team which could challenge for Europe again.
With Armstrong being a named target, it is worth noting that the former Newcastle striker has been in top form this season. The striker has notched 20 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions this season. The 24-year-old may be less than six-foot-tall, but makes up with a brilliant work rate and lighting fast pace.
West Ham have also been linked to plenty of other forwards in recent weeks. Youssef En-Nesyri and Ivan Toney have been the most reported on, but Toney suits the Moyes’ player profile far more. The Brentford striker is very different from Armstrong in most departments except for two goals and pace.
Toney, like Armstrong, is banging in goals regularly this season and has already scored 24 goals as well as assisting a further nine in only 30 Championship games. The difference between the two forwards is Toney brings height, strength and power.
The 24-year-old has a lot of the same qualities as Michail Antonio. The current Hammer is 30-years-old and is constantly walking the line with his hamstrings. Toney could be the perfect long-term replacement; however, he would cost upwards of £25 million.
If West Ham managed to sign both players, it would revolutionise the club’s attack. Not only would it added depth, but it would allow for different systems to be played as they can do different things. Moyes could also experiment with a front two.
