January loanee, Jesse Lingard, hopes to bring to West Ham the winning mentality that Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jose Mourinho instilled in him. The midfielder has had a great start to life at the London Stadium scoring two goals and earning one assist in his three appearances.
As well as the goals, Lingard has helped add an extra spark to the West Ham attack. Against Sheffield United, the midfielder was played a false number nine and helped link the attack exceptionally well. Lingard won the Hammers penalty and was unlucky not get himself on the scoresheet.
Lingard had many successes at Manchester United, including winning the Europa League and FA Cup. With West Ham challenging at the top end of the table, the Englishman can bring some vital experience into the dressing room. Lingard has said himself that he hopes to bring his winning mentality into the Hammers dressing room.
"“When Zlatan came in he was the perfect example of wanting to win, Jose as well he wanted to win, It rubbed off on the likes of me and Marcus (Rashford), I can bring that experience to West Ham. I know what it is like to win, it is that focus and mindset of going into each game and winning.”Lingard told BT Sport."
Jesse Lingard hopes to contribute to West Ham’s successful season and can bring the wisdom of some serial winners with him into the dressing room.
David Moyes signed Lingard on loan in January, the clubs only major deal, and has been impressed with the midfielder. The two worked together briefly during Moyes’ time as Manchester United manager. Despite being impressed, Moyes is not really surprised to see Lingard flourish at West Ham.
"“I think Jesse’s ability has always been there, it was only a year or so ago that he was an England international. Overall he is a talented football player and we knew he could give us something different in the final third to add competition.”Moyes on Lingard."
The manager will be hoping Lingard can continue to inspire his Hammers team. West Ham have a tough run of fixtures coming up, including games against Tottenham, Manchester City, Leeds, Manchester United (which Lingard will miss) and Arsenal. If the Hammers can come through those matches with at least eight points, then they can consider themselves challengers.
If Lingard continues to impress, it would be no surprise to see West Ham try to make his loan deal permanent in the summer. The midfielder will be in the last year of his contract at the Red Devils and could be available for a cut-price fee.
