No need for West Ham to press the panic button yet
By Jay Korman
What we saw this past weekend at Craven Cottage was less than ideal from a West Ham perspective. On a cold and rainy evening in West London, the Irons were sluggish, wasteful, and looked off the pace.
Although this was the worst performance we had seen from West Ham in quite some time, there were a few positives to take out of the match from a Hammers perspective.
West Ham were able to keep another clean sheet in the match, and although Fulham were a bit wasteful with their chances, they didn’t do too much to rattle the Irons backline.
In the past, West Ham would have gotten battered had they shown up and put in a performance similar to what we saw this weekend. However, under David Moyes, we have changed expectations and are aware of what will be consistent in every match.
West Ham were able to pick up a point with a performance that did not warrant one.
Regardless of how disjointed the attack looks or how overpowered, the midfield is, the defensive structure and shape of the team will never fold. This is the identity of West Ham United under David Moyes.
I think that most fans of Premier League clubs, and any club for that matter, can expect a few shocking performances during a season. It would be downright impossible for every club to play their best game 38 straight times, and whoever comes closest to that mark usually wins the league.
Moyes’ team has a different mentality and fight to it. Even during the worst of games, the ability of the squad to stick together and grind something out of the game is very impressive to this West Ham fan.
I fully expect the squad to bounce back with some huge performances, starting with Manchester United in the FA Cup. It will be a tough test for Moyes and the squad, however, the one thing we can bank on is that the fight and willingness to play for the badge will be present.
Win or lose, this Hammers team will not go down easily. Come on you Irons!
