After winning their sixth consecutive game in all competitions, West Ham are now targeting their next scalp against current champions Liverpool. The Hammers beat Crystal Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park; the scoreline did not reflect David Moyes’ side’s dominance.

West Ham will fancy their chances of picking up a positive result against Liverpool at the London Stadium. The Reds scraped a 2-1 win against the Hammers in the reverse fixture at Anfield. This game has a different edge, as Moyes’ side is at full strength and are gunning for a European spot.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have not been themselves in recent weeks. The Reds have been poor since the turn of the year and have lost games against Southampton and Burnley which has seen them drop from the top of the table. Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, are coming off their first win of the year after beating Tottenham.

West Ham will be looking for revenge on Liverpool after they were narrowly beaten in the reverse fixture at Anfield.

West Ham Team News

David Moyes has no new injury concerns going into the match against Liverpool. The manager is likely to keep the same starting eleven that has proven so successful. The only absentee from the squad is Arthur Masuaku who is not expected back for a couple of months.

One change to the squad that won’t be happening is the inclusion of new signing Jesse Lingard. The midfielder had not signed his deal with the Hammers before the deadline. Lingard will now have to wait to make his debut in the claret and blue.

Barring any last-minute knocks in training, West Ham fans can expect to see the same side that dispatched Crystal Palace earlier in the week. Michail Antonio will undoubtedly be hoping to keep his place after spurning multiple chances against the Eagles. The converted striker has a good record against the Reds, scoring 5 goals in 8 games against the Red.

Match Prediction

West Ham won’t be scared to face Liverpool this time around. The Hammers are playing with a confidence that can be felt the moment they step on to the pitch. That being said, Liverpool are a much more formidable opponent than anyone else the team have played in the last month.

The Hammers defence that was so solid at the start of the winning run is starting to creek. Three goals conceded in their last two league games against Palace and West Brom will need to sharpen up against the Reds attacking talent.

While the team may be weakening at the back the same can be said for Liverpool. With Joel Matip and Fabinho likely to miss the game the West Ham attackers must take advantage and score their share of the goals.

It’s likely the game against Liverpool may be one step too far to continue the winning run, but that doesn’t mean the club cant get a positive result. The Hammers are perfectly capable of grabbing a respectable draw at least against the Reds.

Score Prediction: West Ham 2-2 Liverpool

Michail Antonio will back himself to get back amongst the goals after his missed chances against Palace. Pablo Fornals will also fancy his chances of adding to his tally against Liverpool. The Spaniard has scored two goals in three games against the Reds.
