West Ham: David Moyes Undecided On Germany-Based Striker Target
It is well known that West Ham are in the market for a new striker after selling Sebastien Haller earlier in the transfer window. One target that could be signed is Red Bull Leipzig striker Hwang Hee-Chan; however, David Moyes is undecided on the striker.
Hwang Hee-Chan only joined the German side last summer for £8.10 million after impressing at Austrian-based side Red Bull Salzburg. The South Korean has only scored one goal and assisted one more since he has moved to Germany. Hwang Hee-Chan has only had limited game time for Leipzig as he only has 9 appearances this season.
At Salzburg, Hwang Hee-Chan was on another level. During the 25-year-old’s 126 appearances the South Korean scored 45 goals and assisted 29 goals for his teammates. Considering Michail Antonio is heads on to be the starting striker when fit, Hwang Hee-Chan seems like a decent option to be back-up.
West Ham are interested in signing Hwang Hee-Chan on loan however David Moyes is yet to make up his mind on the striker.
Despite a relatively poor stint on paper at Leipzig, the player has impressed their manager Julian Nagelsman. The young manager was complementary towards the player earlier in the season as he praised Hwang Hee-Chan’s play style.
"“He’s not a guy who will score 35 goals, but he’ll really hurt the opposition with his pace and runs from deep,” Nagelsmann said of Hee-Chan at the start of the season, per Bundesliga.com."
It is believed that the club has a deal ready to be signed off, but David Moyes is unsure whether to sign him according to SkySports. Moyes does have a history of ‘dithering’ on signing players in the past; however, this time around it is suggested that Moyes is happy with the squad and isn’t too desperate to sign any old striker.
Hwang Hee-Chan would fit the club’s current system as a hard-worker and would be willing to give his all for the team. The South Korean is also blessed with pace and power, which would help him fill Antonio’s role if needed.
