With deadline day fast approaching, West Ham are yet to bring a striker to the London Stadium. Time is now running out and Moyes will surely be looking to make some concrete moves for some of his key targets.

The latest player to be linked with a move to the Hammers is 23-year-old Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard. Both trusted West Ham Twitter source ExWHUemployee and most recently the Daily Star, have reported on Moyes’ interest in the player.

The Frenchman has been a crucial player for Celtic in the past few seasons and has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while, with Leicester City rumoured to have had a strong interest in the player in the summer.

Edouard is a good player but could he be the striker that West Ham have been looking for?

Here are some positives and negatives for West Ham potentially signing the Odsonne Edouard:

Positives

Edouard is a clinical, out and out striker who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. Last season the player was unstoppable, with the Frenchman scoring 28 goals in all competitions according to Transfermarkt.

21 of those goals were in the league as he fired Celtic to another Scottish league title. If West Ham could get Edouard in before deadline day and if he could replicate that form in the league, then the Hammers would cause serious damage.

The French forward has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season and looks like he is on his way to replicating last season’s form.

Edouard is very capable of playing in the lone striker role and has a similar style to Michail Antonio, meaning he could fit right into our team. He is quick, strong, dangerous in the air and has very good hold up play. Edouard ticks all of the boxes for us.

A big positive is that the player is still only 23-years-old and has massive potential to grow as a player.

Another positive is that Edouard is entering the final year of his contract at Celtic and the Scottish side are said to be ready to cash in on the player.

The Frenchman is said to be available for around £20 million which should be well within West Ham’s budget seeing as we reportedly had a £35 million bid rejected by Sevilla for LaLiga top scorer En-Nesyri.

According to the Daily Star, Edouard is said to be desperate to prove himself in the Premier League and that he fancies a move to London.

If this is the case then West Ham have absolutely no excuse’s to not go all out to try and secure his signature.

Negatives

One challenge that West Ham will face is the competition for the Frenchman’s signature. It is said that Arsenal, Spurs and Leicester City are all interested in the striker so it could be very difficult to get a deal done for him.

There could be questions marks held over the fact that Edouard has been playing in a less challenging league and that he is playing in the best team in the league by a country mile. However, you could have the best service in the world but still have to score the goals.

Overall, if West Ham can fight off the competition and secure a deal quickly, Edouard would be a fantastic signing for West Ham. The Frenchman could be a real coup from the East London club and he could be the final part of the jigsaw for Moyes’ high flying Hammers.
