West Ham have been on fire to start off 2021 and picked up another crucial result over West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday. Although the results are great, the depth of the squad is starting to become a major concern.
Yes, Michail Antonio‘s return to the squad has been great, but the fact of the matter is that West Ham’s squad is lacking the crucial depth needed for a top finish in the league.
The Hammers have been in great form consistently throughout the season, but the real test will come in the second half of the season.
David Moyes has done a fantastic job with the team, but it is clear to see as the results keep coming in, that the Hammers bench does not seem to have the depth and talent needed at the moment for West Ham to keep their position in the table.
West Ham did not have a striker in the matchday squad against WBA other than Michail Antonio.
This should be a real concern for the West Ham board regardless of the Hammers’ latest results.
It has become very clear at least to this fan, that Moyes is very capable of taking this team to new heights this season. West Ham currently sits in 7th place in the table but are only 2 points off of 4th place.
With such a fantastic start to the season, it is very obvious that Moyes needs reinforcements to the squad this window. The lack of depth is starting to show itself, especially in attack.
Having Robert Snodgrass and Sebastien Haller leave during the window is fine, especially based off of how much playing time they received, but the replacements simply have to be given to Moyes to keep growing the squad and moving up the table.
Moyes has done a fantastic job this season and deserves to be able to bring in his own players that share his common vision of a “New” West Ham United.
I think many fans are excited to see what this “New” version of West Ham looks like, but the fact of the matter is that until the squad can start to strengthen, we have no idea what Moyes and his project will be fully capable of achieving.
