Breel Embolo has been touted as one of football’s potential superstars for the last few years, but the 26m move to Shalke didn’t reveal itself to be good value, and his time at Borussia has been…ok. But his strength and work rate could prove to be exactly what West Ham need. I mean, the fans wanted more of it from Haller, so this could be the guy they want!
The issue I have felt from Embolo is that people have tried to change what he is about, moving him from winger to striker and in and out, rather than knowing what’s best for him. But as a like for like to Antonio, he would have a direct role and someone to work off of.
Again, he doesn’t have the same aerial impact, but his running on and off the all would provide the same avenues that Antonio does and enable us to have genuine cover during Antonio’s injury spells. I think that a transfer fee of around 20m should be able to tempt Gladbach to sell, and he could be a real prospect for the Hammers moving forward.
