Likelihood – Potential, but not likely
Alexander Isak is the wild card on this list for me. He clearly has a number of physical attributes that we would be looking for in getting a backup striker in around the squad, but Dortmund let him go and he’s still not broken into the first side at Sociedad. And our board are probably very keen to avoid an expensive bust. Again.
That being said, he could be the cheapest option here. Having only signed for around 6.5m euro in 2019, taking 18m for him in this window would represent a quick and significant profit for Sociedad whilst offering West Ham youthful, quality cover and the potential for the price to continue to rise.
However, if the board genuinely want to take West Ham to a level where we can compete at the business end of the table, we need to see more established strikers being signed, or at least those better proven to fit our style of play. I wouldn’t be against a move for Isak, but I think there are better options.
