Multiple reports have emerged that West Ham could be about to sanction the sale of record signing Sebastien Haller.
West Ham signed Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 for a club-record fee of around £45 million. The striker has never hit his full stride at the London Stadium for a lot of reasons, not all of which are his fault.
According to multiple reports, the Haller could be on his way out of the club this month. French media outlet L’equipe have suggested that Dutch giants Ajax are in talks with West Ham over a €25 million move. A deal is still yet to be agreed for the striker; the Hammers, however, could still keep the Ivorian International until the summer as it would be easier to sign a replacement.
Haller has struggled for most of his time at the club. One reason from this from playing in a system that does not suit him. At Frankfurt, the striker played with two forwards either side of him and was a big success. The Hammers have expected him to play as a target man, which he has not been capable of adapting to.
The 26-year-old, however, must take some of the blame for his failure of a transfer. Haller was often criticised for lack of effort but Hammers fans. Even when the player was putting in a shift, it still lacked the same impact as Michail Antonio. The debate surrounding Haller has been a very divisive argument between fans on social media.
Having made fifty-three appearances for West Ham, Haller has had some incredible moments in the Claret and Blue shirt. The striker, when he has scored, has made them memorable. Haller has scored overhead kicks against Watford, Bournemouth and his best one was against Crystal Palace this season.
Haller’s transfer to West Ham promised so much but delivered very little. If the striker is to be sold, then the club will have to replace him as soon as possible. The Hammers will only have Antonio as a senior striker option left in the squad.
