West Ham’s Three Best Christmas Presents For Fans
West Ham 5-0 Charlton Athletic (2000)
One of the best Christmas presents West Ham have ever delivered was twenty-years ago when Alan Curbishley’s Charlton travelled to the Boyeln Ground. The Hammers were under the watchful management of Harry Redknapp and were playing some of their best football in modern times.
On Boxing Day, Charlton were smashed 5-0 by a brilliant Hammers performance. Richard Rufus started the scoring when he put through his own net after the ball took a deflection after some Paolo Di Canio trickery. Once Charlton went behind, there was no catching the West Ham.
A brace from Frederic Kanoute sandwiched goals from Frank Lampard Jnr, and a brilliant strike from Trevor Sinclair completed the Hammer’s rampant performance. Sinclair’s effort was the pick of the bunch. The Englishman scored a spectacular 25-yard dipping volley. The goal was the pigs and blanket of the Christmas dinner that was a special victory.
Hopefully, West Ham can give its fans another brilliant Christmas present this year and make the most of the good start to the season they have had.
