West Ham continues their season and will face one of their toughest tests to date, an away trip to Stamford Bridge to take on London rivals Chelsea.

Form wise West Ham are one of the better sides in the league having won four of their last six games. A win against the Blues would see the Hammers take their points total up to 24 and could drive them up the table into the European spots.

Declan Rice’s Performance

Declan Rice has been linked with a return to Chelsea since he started to show his natural ability regularly. No official move is yet to have been made for Rice, and West Ham fans will hope it will stay that way. In the meantime, Rice can further show Chelsea what they missed out on when they released him as a 14-year-old.

Last season in both matches against Chelsea, Rice showed just how good he has become and dominated the midfield in both occasions. This time around the Blues are chasing a title, and West Ham are hopeful of at least a top ten position. Rice’s performance could be crucial in both team season’s stories.

Rice is yet to score a goal this season and would certainly enjoy for his first to be against Chelsea. The midfielder has shown just how much he treasured the wins over the Blues last season and would love to get on the scoresheet against them, even just to further prove them wrong.

Werner’s Pace

It has been a mixed season for Chelsea’s new star striker. Timo Werner has contributed to seven goals in thirteen Premier League matches (four goals and three assists). Despite showing plenty of promise, the German is yet to fully find his feet in the Premier League.

One thing that Werner has shown if his blistering pace, one of the main things that can hurt any defence, even West Ham’s. The Hammer’s defence has been much improved this season and will have to make sure not to allow any space for Werner to exploit.

If David Moyes can keep his defensive line deep, then it could cause a tricky afternoon for Werner. The defence will have to oblige, and if they do step up, Werner could cause all sorts of problems for the Hammers.

Haller Time?

Sebastien Haller has had a troubled time on the pitch since joining West Ham. After struggling to adapt to David Moyes’ system the Ivory Coast international is starting to find the back of the net. With two goals in his last four games, it seems as though Haller is starting to turn a corner.

There is a lot of hope the overhead kick Haller scored against Crystal Palace can be the catalyst to spur him on for the rest of the season. Though his performance against the Eagles did lack in a few other areas.

If Haller can improve the other areas of his game such as pressuring the defence, making attacking runs and sacrificing himself a bit more he could be the match-winner against Chelsea.
