West Ham Interested In League One’s Rising Star
West Ham are looking to improve their squad depth in the January transfer window and may have identified their next signing from the lower divisions.
David Moyes has prioritised signing players from the lower leagues in England’s football pyramid. This tactic has been used well so far as players like Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma have been big hits in West Ham’s side.
The next position that could be about to receive some new blood from the lower leagues is the left-back position. The Hammers are reportedly interested in MK Dons promising starlet Matthew Sorinola. The defender is also able to play as a left-midfielder, left-wing-back and a centre-back. The ability to play in multiple positions is a trait that certainly attracts Moyes.
Sorinola has spent some of the year playing in non-league football. After impressing in his loan spells the 19-year-old has cemented his spot in the League One side’s team. This season Sorinola has played seventeen games in all competitions and has contributed towards his sides five clean sheets.
The youngster has also contributed at the other end of the pitch, scoring one goal an providing two assists. Sorinola is clearly showing signs that he can grow into a brilliant player in the future as he has taken on a lot of responsibility despite his tender age.
The defender would not command a huge fee and would probably leap at the chance to join West Ham while they are challenging towards the top of the Premier League. Sorinola probably would not take the starting berth immediately but could benefit from the tutelage of Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku.
Cresswell and Masuaku are both good players but lack what the other ones strength is. If they were able to teach Sorinola the best sides of their games, then they could turn the youngster into a world-class defender.
West Ham will have competition to sign the promising defender as Leeds, Newcastle, West Brom, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Middlesbrough are all interested in the player. For once-through, the Hammers are highest up the footballing ladder and could argue they are in the best place to sign him.
