After another dazzling display coming off of the bench and providing the game-winning assist against Villa, Saïd Benrahma needs to be playing for West Ham.
WHAT. A. MATCH. After a thrilling 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at the London Stadium, West Ham now find themselves fifth in the Premier League Table.
David Moyes has this West Ham side playing some outstanding football, and there are many players in the team currently who are playing the best football of their careers. However, this does lead to competition for playing time at the club.
I completely understand that Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen, Sebastien Haller, and of course Michail Antonio are crucial players to this team and should be credited with a lot of our success thus far. All this being said, David Moyes must find ways to get Saïd Benrahma on the pitch more often.
Benrahma has that look and feel to him, and you can sense that every time the Algerian maestro touches the ball, magic is about to ensue. It only took Benrahma about a minute to make his mark on the Villa game, with a perfect chipped assist to Bowen for the lead.
It’s those kinds of plays and energy that give Hammers fans goosebumps and flashbacks of the great Dimitri Payet. I see it in him, and it’s time to start getting excited. The Hammers have found a gem. Getting him consistent playtime, however, is a completely different story.
The Hammers are loaded upfront, and every single attacking player at the club is in brilliant form at the moment. Will David Moyes be able to find the attacking balance and rotation needed for the Hammers to finish in a European position this season?
This fan thinks David Moyes will. If you look at the current state of the team upfront, you have to figure that Antonio will be watched very carefully over the next few months to ensure his fitness for the rest of the season.
Haller has been playing well, and with both Bowen and Fornals in great form, it would be tough to see Benrahma get a start over both without an injury or major drop in form.
Therefore, I would like to see the Hammers rotate the wingers, but make sure always to bring on a fresh winger with enough time to impact the game. Although Benrahma would not start every match, give him an opportunity to impact the game off the bench with enough time.
This is a very exciting time to be a West Ham fan, and with the fixtures coming thick and thin, we will really get to see what kind of a team this Irons squad wants to be. Saïd Benrahma is a crucial piece for this European run.
