West Ham’s Pablo Fornals has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for the month of October.
Pablo Fornals had an impressive October and made crucial contributions towards West Ham’s victories over Wolves and Leicester City. Against the Foxes, Fornals scored his first goal of the season and assisted a Jarrod Bowen for a goal.
The Spanish midfielder showed in the last month why David Moyes is a big fan of his. Fornals’ tireless work rate and effort off the ball have made him a crucial member of the club’s current system.
The high of October for Fornals would have been his goal against Liverpool on Halloween. The 24-year-old controlled the ball down and hit a perfectly placed shot past Alisson Becker to give the Hammers an early lead. Liverpool did end up winning the game, but due to Fornals’ goal, it was a much harder contest than they anticipated.
Some West Ham fans might be surprised to see Fornals’ nomination for the award. The Spanish playmaker has spurred quite a few chances in the last month. Fornals could have scored goals against Tottenham and Manchester City.
Against Spurs, Fornals headed over a deflected Michail Antonio shot, despite being only three yards out. The Spaniard could have scored the winner against Manchester City but lost his composure and got a simple lob all wrong.
Despite scoring against Liverpool, Fornals could have come away from the game with at least one assist as well. There were multiple opportunities for Fornals to play-in Bowen but instead made the wrong decision to go for goal himself.
Despite these errors, Fornals has been in good form and is deserving of his nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month.
The Spaniard is up against Premier League stars such as Thiago Silva, Che Adams, Jack Grealish, Conor Coady, Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Kyle Walker.
