West Ham have been linked with a move to sign Real Madrid striker, Luka Jovic. The Serbian is a former teammate of Sebastien Haller.

Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller left their previous Eintracht Frankfurt in the same summer, Jovic went to Madrid and Haller went to West Ham. The duo cost their new clubs a combined fee of over €100 million after their brilliant campaigns in Germany.

The duo had formed a brilliant partnership along with Ante Rebic in Germany. Since their big-money transfers, however, they have both failed to live up the hype. Haller has scored twelve goals and provided three assists in forty-three games for the Hammers. Jovic, on the other hand, has only managed two goals and two assists in the Spanish capital.

Jovic has flopped in Madrid, whereas Haller divides West Ham fans opinion. But the two attackers could be in luck as it is being reported that Real Marid are keen on offloading the Serbian star. The Hammers among a host of clubs that would be interested in Jovic’s signature.

According to the report in the Mirror, West Ham will have to battle Premier League rivals Leicester City for Jovic. Madrid would be willing to Jovic available on a loan to buy deal. These sorts of deals are a favourite of the Hammers hierarchy.

The 22-year-old has plenty of time left in his career to rediscover his goalscoring form and reach the top of the footballing world. But it is clear to see that it won’t happen in Madrid. The Serbian striker is clearly not in the plans of manager Zinedine Zidane.

The Hammers could offer Jovic a new home in London. There would be a lot of logic to a switch to West Ham from Jovic’s point of view. The Serbian striker would reunite with Haller and rebuild their partnership that was so effective before it was split up. The club are also playing a similar system as Frankfurt were at the moment.

West Ham are in need of another striker now Michail Antonio is injured, meaning Haller is the only fit forward in the squad. Any move for Jovic would be an ambitious one, but it would still be a sensible one.
