Jack Wilshere’s time at West Ham was wrecked by constant injuries, but after leaving the club, he hastipped a ‘big team’ to try and sign Declan Rice.

West Ham and Jack Wilshere agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent. The former England international joined the club in 2018 when Manuel Pellegrini was manager. But Injuries hampered his ability to break into the side.

After two seasons Wilshere only managed to make nineteen appearances in the claret and blue of the Hammers. When David Moyes became manager Wilshere found it hard to make it into the matchday squad. So it came as no surprise to see him let go on the summer transfer deadline day.

Since leaving the club, Wilshere has done a lot of talking. When it was announced that Wilshere had left the club, the 28-year-old took to social media to suggest that he had “been fully fit for a large period of the time” he was at the club.

Wilshere has now praised current pitch captain Declan Rice in an interview with SkySports. The current England international apparently impressed Wilshere.

"“I have said it before how much I rate him as a player and how much I enjoyed playing with and training with him and being around him.”"

The next comments from Wilshere are unlikely to win him any favours with West Ham fans. The former Arsenal midfielder carried on his interview and suggested that ‘big teams’ will attempt to try sign Rice from the Hammers.

"“It is very important for West Ham that they kept him there this year. There is always going to be the big teams that come to try and take Declan Rice. That’s something that West Ham are going to deal with. But they have got him this year.”"

The idea that clubs will want to sign Rice is not new to Hammers fans, but the suggestion that West Ham is not a ‘big team’ is something that is always debatable. In terms of history, the East London side has plenty of it, though in recent years Wilshere could be suggesting that the clubs ‘size’ has shrunk.
