After an incredible comeback against Tottenham being 3-0 down late in the second half, West Ham must now focus their attention on one of the best teams in the Premier League.
It would be hard for any West Ham fan to put into words how the past three matches have gone for the Hammers. After resounding victories over Wolves and Leicester respectively, the Irons showed up for a third match week straight with an incredible last-second comeback against arch-rival Spurs.
With another tough match on the horizon in Man City, it’s going to be interesting to see if David Moyes would be willing to make any changes to the squad.
One of the biggest questions going into the match against City will be the status of West Ham’s deadline day signing Said Benrahma. After not being ready to play for the Spurs match, it seems as though we could see Benrahma at some point this weekend. Although many fans are calling for Said to start over Fornals for this match, Pablo is in great form and I don’t believe Moyes should make any changes to the current side at the moment.
Another lineup question could stem from the back three. Fabian Balbuena has done a solid job in the absence of Issa Diop, who was recovering from Covid-19. Balbuena came in and played well enough to keep his place, but after a shaky performance against Spurs, could we potentially see Diop’s return back into the starting XI?
As for the rest of the team, you would have to figure that Moyes would go with an unchanged lineup for Man City this weekend. Although City will be heavily favoured, they may be without their best player in Kevin De Bruyne, and overall have looked a bit shaky so far this season.
It will be interesting to see who gets the nod for Pep Guardiola‘s side, considering City play a Champions League group stage match during the midweek.
The Hammers have been in great form over the past three-match weeks, but are coming up against a European Giant at the weekend. I think that the Irons should feel confident, but should be equally as concerned about the attacking threat that City pose. If West Ham can snag a few goals on the counter, we could have another upset on our hands.
