Manuel Lanzini’s best West Ham moments
2. Ending Spurs title hopes.
Even though Lanzini had a great moment against Palace in 2016/17 season, his moment in the campaign came against Tottenham. West Ham had put together a run of four games unbeaten which had put them within touching distance of Premier League safety.
Spurs, on the other hand, were fighting for the title but had seen their challenge fade in the game weeks before. A loss to the Hammers would be the death of their title charge and condemn them to another trophyless season.
Lanzini put in a Man of the Match performance that night and was key to the Hammers attacking play. He was rewarded for his hard work when he scored the winning goal and sent the fans in London stadium into a frenzy.
A deep Aaron Cresswell cross evaded Jonathan Calleri and ran through to Sam Byram. The right-back sent the ball back into the box. The cross was missed by the Spurs defence and fell to Lanzini. The midfielder took his chance and smashed it past Lloris to give the Hammers a famous win.
The victory was even more memorable as it not only stopped Spurs title chase but also confirmed the clubs spot on the Premier League.
