Split Decision in GSH Match Predictions: West Ham at Tottenham
By Justin Wasik
West Ham make their third-ever trip to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to face their bitter London rivals, here are our predictions for the match!
Justin: 2-1 Tottenham
I believe West Ham will give Spurs a good match. The three at the back system has worked well for the Hammers as they have won the last two matches by a combined seven goals and played very well in an unlucky loss to Arsenal.
However, Tottenham have been one of the most effective attacking teams early in this Premier League campaign. After an opening week loss to Everton, Spurs have outscored their opponents twelve goals to four, including a 6-1 win against Manchester United.
Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have led the way of this cutthroat attack, with both players scoring three and six goals, respectively for the North Londoners.
I expect Spurs to have trouble breaking down the West Ham defence at first, but then Son and Kane leading the breakthrough. Gareth Bale may also make an appearance, further adding to the effectiveness of the Spurs front three.
I predict Jarrod Bowen will get yet another goal as West Ham are hard done by a 2-1 defeat.
Lou: 2-1 Tottenham
After coasting past two tough opponents in Wolves and Leicester, it would be easy for me to predict a win here against Spurs.
They are coming off the back of a historic win against Man United, and it looks as though it could be Gareth Bale’s first game back in lily-white.
That is one reason why I think we will struggle to continue our win streak, but having predicted losses for both of our previous two victories, I want to carry on my own little streak. Such is my superstitious self.
I think we, and Antonio in particular, will cause them immense trouble on the break and I would be surprised to see us not score at least one. Whether our defence can keep another clean sheet is a different question.
Either way, I think we are in for an exciting game of football.
Jonathan: 2-2 Draw
The Good News: No injuries after the international break mean West Ham will return a fully fit squad that ran rampant over Leicester on October 4th.
The Bad News: Gareth Bale the Iron Slayer is back at White Hart Lane. In February of 2013, I wretched as I watched him plunge an 89th-minute dagger into my heart. But four years of practicing for the Master’s on Spanish golf courses may mean his striking boots have lost their lustre.
Tottenham will control possession, and West Ham plan to continue their lethal counterattack with Antonio chasing balls down the channels in frequent Dunkirkian displays of heroism.
Adam: 2-0 West Ham
Maybe it’s the endorphins from the Said Benrahma signing or the overwhelming confidence the team has on the back of two lopsided wins over strong competition, but West Ham deserve credit and respect, even against Tottenham.
Kane and Son are in great form but can they break down the system that shut out Leicester and Wolves? Possibly, but it’s not as sure of a thing as Michail Antonio, Pablo Fornals, and Jarrod Bowen boxing them in and hitting them on the counter.
It should be a thrilling match regardless, but the Hammers are poised to keep their success rolling, despite strong competition and a just-as inform team in Tottenham awaiting them!
