The recent transfer window for the Hammers has been one of the toughest yet, however that may be about to change due to a big signing.
To put it lightly, the transfer window was not very kind to West Ham supporters. It seemed as though the Hammers would go through target after target, only to eventually pull out of a move or have another club come in and swoop the player up.
Throughout the window, many of West Ham fans thought that some of the rumoured targets were not up to the standard of quality that we as a club should be going for, and the whole situation left a sour taste in most fans’ mouths. However, that may be about to change.
Listen, when you look at West Ham’s current squad, it would seem that a defender and a midfielder would be more suited for the team due to the fact that the attack seems to be firing on all cylinders with quality in every position. Even with the attack looking like it could carry the Irons pretty far this season, the signing of Saïd Benrahma is one that the Hammers should be delighted with.
Regardless of need, fit, and whether or not the manager rates him, Benrahma is simply too elite of a talent for the Hammers to pass on. The fanbase has already been buzzing for days on social media at the prospect of the Algerian maestro taking his talents to the London Stadium.
For many fans myself included, the playstyle and potential fit of Benrahma on West Ham reminds me a little bit of Dimitri Payet. It’s that glimmer of hope, that little bit of magic that the fans need to see from West Ham.
As of right now, I don’t know if Benrahma would even slot into the Hammers starting XI. Both Bowen and Fornals have been outstanding, and some people would argue that a defender is more of a “need”. Although that may be true, the sheer talent and excitement that Benrahma would bring to the club is more than needed for the current state of West Ham. Let’s hope we can get this deal over the line!
