Former Tottenham and Leeds midfielder Michael Brown reckons West Ham are going to sign Said Benrahma from Brentford before the close of the EFL domestic window.

Speaking to Football Insider Michael Brown fancies West Ham to make a move for the Algerian. Said Benrahma would be a perfect replacement for the now FC Porto loanee, Felipe Anderson. The Brazilian has moved to Portugal on a season-long loan after a disappointing 2019/20 campaign.

Brentford manager, Thomas Frank, has said that if the price is right, Benrahma could be sold. Bees fans would be frustrated as the club has already lost Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa earlier in the summer.

Knowing the Hammers are after defensive targets, Brown could not resist suggesting that Benrahma would be a good acquisition for the David Moyes’ side. When asked if West Ham should prioritise other areas of the squad, Brown said “yeah, but he’s a good player, isn’t he? You’ve got to say that.”

Benrahma is a luxury player that could be useful at West Ham. The club sold Grady Diangana and loaned out Anderson, meaning there are no recognised left-wingers at the club currently. Pablo Fornals is currently playing in the position but without any real competition.

West Ham’s other winger options have dried up also. Andriy Yarmolenko and Jarrod Bowen are more reliable as a right-midfielders. Whereas, Michail Antonio is now seen as a striker rather than a winger.

Brown insists that the Hammers would be wise to sign the 25-year-old and thinks he would be a welcome addition to the East London side.

"“He’s someone I’d fancy at West Ham by next week, I think he can unlock things, he’s got a bit of quality – I know what you’re saying in that defensively and in those areas they’d want to improve but it takes time.“It takes a few windows to get the squad you want and that’s ultimately where they’re at.”"

Benrahma scored 17 goals and provided 9 assists in what was a productive campaign in the Championship last season. This return, if transferred to the Premier League, would make Benrahma West Ham’s standout player.

In the meantime, the Hammers seem closer to signing AFC Bournemouth’s Josh King who was reportedly in talks over a move.
