It may not have been a long time since West Ham last played a competitive football match, but it seems like an eternity for GSH predictions.

West Ham will be taking on Newcastle United on Saturday evening. The last time the two sides met, it ended in a 2-2 draw at St James’ Park. Like that game, there will still be no fans as football continues to try recover from the Coronavirus pandemic.

Henry – West Ham United 1-1 Newcastle United

It will be a very tough game for West Ham, Newcastle have spent well in the transfer window. The Magpies have brought in Jamaal Lewis from Norwich, a left-back that the Hammers should have enquired about as he would have been an upgrade on the club’s current options.

Steve Bruce has also signed Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson, both of which have attributes that can hurt West Ham’s fragile defence. On the positive side, there is still a skilful attack under David Moyes’ command that can score goals.

Felipe Anderson scored against Bournemouth in the Betway cup and could have a big season for the Hammers. I think the teams will cancel each other at the end of the day and West Ham will start the season with a point.

Aaron – West  Ham United 2-0 Newcastle United

For the majority of the preseason, I like to think that I’ve been a voice of positivity at Green Street Hammers. I thought the lads kicked on well down the stretch and they really started to embody the type of West Ham squad that supporters love. With Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek you know you’re going to have two of the hardest working lads on the pitch.

But the Grady Diangana sale really took the wind out of my sails. I’ve written a few articles about how we want to build a young, hungry team from the Championship and then to have that happen was just infuriating. For the first time in a while, I’m not all that excited to see this campaign kick-off.

If everyone shows up tomorrow, and we get a hard-fought victory I can guarantee that I will return to being obnoxiously optimistic. But I need to see some evidence first.

Adam – West Ham United 2-1 Newcastle United

We might as well start out on a positive foot with match predictions this season, and with the pending results, three points here could be massive for the Hammers. Newcastle are strong, play nice football, and have added extremely well in the offseason so, they will be even tougher this season.

I do think we’ll see a response from Moyes’ men. On the scoresheet, Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals come into play here. Both should see starting minutes and have combined for goals in the past. If both players are on their game they are hard to stop and will be integral for West Ham to starting the season on the right foot!

Scott- West Ham United 1-1 Newcastle United

It’s weird to think we’re starting the season so soon after the end of the last one, and maybe that’s part of the lack of excitement heading into this match. Or maybe it’s the fact West Ham seem to have only taken a step back during the summer whilst their opponents in Newcastle have taken steps forward in a way that many Hammers fans wish their club would.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Newcastle have real threats to West Ham’s weaknesses and I worry about our full backs coping with Newcastle’s wide men, so hopefully, we will look to dominate possession and make the most of any early season sleepiness from the magpies. I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet, and I can’t see us scoring too many, so my guess is a 1-1 draw.

Jeff – West Ham United 3-0 Newcastle United

I wish I could say I was optimistic about West Ham United as another season is set to begin. I wish I could say I was excited about starting this all over again.

All the positive momentum the players created on the pitch during the restart staving off relegation and the white-hot play of Antonio has gone away in this very short offseason.

The fixtures in the next two months are daunting, and the club has done nothing to add to the core or to shore up the weaknesses we all know exist and can see with our own eyes. Not only have the board not improved the club, most believe they made it weaker by the selling of Grady Diangana.

There has been real drama around the squad played out in social media. And even more, unbelievably rumoured drama that does nothing but makes things seem even worse than reality is at the moment.

Maybe the players will prove me wrong and have the desire and ability to rise above all the noise and show out for themselves and David Moyes in Week 1 against Newcastle United. But I am certainly not feeling that will be the case. I am anticipating more disappointment, more drama and a very tough start to the season for the Hammers.
