West Ham chasing Brazilian left-back from Inter Milan
With every Premier League club making signings left, right and centre, West Ham could be about to enter the fray as they try to loan in Dalbert.
Dalbert Henrique is currently contracted to Italian giants Inter Milan and has been linked to a loan move to West Ham through sports journalist Nicolo Schira. The Hammers will have to compete with Sassuolo for the Brazilian’s signature.
West Ham are in desperate need of a boost in more ways than one at the moment. Since the sale of Grady Diangana to West Brom, the team morale has taken a massive hit. In terms of football reasons, the club’s current left-back options are not good enough.
Aaron Cresswell has proved to be on a sharp decline and has seen his powers drop massively since his bad injury three years ago. The other option, Arthur Masuaku, has always been consistently inconsistent since joining from Olympiacos.
Masuaku does still have a future at the club. The 26-year-old is the most in-form of the two current Hammers. The DR Congo international is also a skilful winger and could become the replacement for Diangana.
Dalbert certainly would be an upgrade on West Ham’s current options in an attacking set-up. Last season while on loan at AFC Fiorentina the defender assisted nine goals in only thirty-four appearances in all competitions.
Cresswell did not assist a single goal for the club last season but did score three times. Masuaku only assisted one goal and did not score either, although he did score a rocket of a strike against Ipswich Town in preseason. What is definite is that Dalbert offers a lot more of a consistent threat against other teams.
Defensively Dalbert played his part in eight of Fiorentina’s clean sheets last season, by comparison, West Ham only managed seven in the Premier League last season.
A rumoured loan move for Dalbert would suit West Ham very well. The 26-year-old would only cost a minimal amount compared to other left-back targets as his deal would only be on loan. Dalbert is also able to play on the left side of the midfield, meaning he could help fill the void left by Diangana.
The Brazilian may not have been West Ham fans first-choice left-back to sign this summer, but he could prove to be a solid signing. Dalbert is not in favour at current side Internazionale, and the club should be able to offer him a better deal than Sassuolo.
