There might be a lot wrong with West Ham at the moment, but Jarrod Bowen is one of the few things that fans can look forward to.

The winger that West Ham signed in the January transfer window from Hull City has already endeared himself to fans with his bullish performances. Jarrod Bowen played thirteen times in the Premier League last season an assisted four goals. The 23-year-old has only scored one competitive goal in claret and blue.

Bowen wants this to change come next season. In the preseason the forward has been on fire, scoring four goals in three games. It is this goalscoring form that convinced the Hammers to sign him from Hull. When Bowen joined, he had scored seventeen goals for Hull and was one of the top scorers in the Championship.

"“It’s getting that confidence of hitting the back of the net again”“I got four in pre-season, and I’ll go into the games full of confidence and I know where the back of the net it.“It’s important to get the minutes and, personally for me, to score goals as well, which is what I want to bring to the team going into the new season.”  Bowen told official West Ham United"

With the sale of Grady Diangana and the team dressing room morale appearing lower than ever, Bowen could be the bright spark the Hammers are looking for. The winger is the clubs most in-form attacker at the moment. Bowen scored two goals in the clubs 5-3 defeat in Betway Cup, and the winger now wants to see performance levels rise going forward.

"“We’ve had games, and it’s important to get the minutes in. Yes, on Saturday we lost and it’s not just about minutes – we want to play better than we did against Bournemouth – but we’ll put it behind us now, go forward with the work we’ve done in the last three weeks and train hard ahead of the big one on Saturday.” Bowen said."

Sebastien Haller did score a hat-trick in the preseason, but Diangana heavily assisted that. In the clubs, lastest warm-up game against Bournemouth the French striker was back to being. Haller painted the frustrated figure that fans will remember from last season.

Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko and Pablo Fornals have all been inconsistent and struggled to impress regularly recently. The other forward Michail Antonio, who was the clubs top goal-scorer last season, was forced off the pitch in a friendly against Brentford. The 30-year-old must get up to speed before the Newcastle match on Saturday.

Next. West Ham signing James Tarkowski is very unlikely. dark

In a time where there seems to be nothing but misery around every corner, it is important to remember the positive things. If Jarrod Bowen fulfils his potential in the coming weeks, it could be the difference between another relegation battle and a comfortable season for the Hammers.
