After news broke that West Ham have accepted a bid for Grady Diangana, it seems that the Hammers will look to bring in Said Benrahma as his replacement.

Grady Diangana is subject of a bid worth potentially £18 million from West Brom and many West Ham fans have already expressed their anger on social media. The exit of Diangana could be softened with the club interested in signing Brentford star Said Benrahma according to the West Ham Way Podcast.

The Algerian had a fantastic season in the Championship last year. Benrahma contributed to twenty-seven goals in forty-six games in all competitions. The 25-year-old plays as an inverted winger, similar to Jarrod Bowen, and has brilliant set-piece ability and a playstyle not too dissimilar to Dimitri Payet.

The Hammers will not have a clear run at Benrahma, Aston Villa and Arsenal are both interested in bringing him to the Premier League. Missing out on him after selling Diangana could leave the club short going forward.

With multiple clubs interested in signing Benrahma could drive his price up and put the Hammers in the middle of a bidding war. If West Ham are drawn into it, they could quickly find out that the money raised from Diangana’s sale might not be enough to win the war for his signature.

The club does have one advantage. Benrahma is a client of Will Salthouse, an agent who has helped West Ham sign players in the past. Salthouse could be crucial in assisting the club in replace one of their most promising stars.

West Ham fans may not be satisfied with the business being conducted, even if Benrahma is signed. The Algerian will have to hit the ground running and carry on his form from the Championship in the Premier League. If this happens then, maybe fans will forgive the sale of Diangana.

If Benrahma crumbles under the pressure or is unable to perform at England’s highest level, then the people in charge of selling Diangana will have a lot to answer for. Even more so if the academy graduate turns into the star that fans believe he will.

The biggest worry that fans will have is if the money received from Diangana’s sale is not reinvested into the squad. With reports that the club still owes money to Eintracht Frankfurt for the purchase of Sebastien Haller, there is a concern that the money will be used for that, leaving the squad even weaker than it already is.

Next. Losing Diangana would hurt West Ham more than losing Rice. dark

What is even more frustrating is that the sales of Jordan Hugill and Albian Ajeti were believed to have settled this debt. Now that appears not to be true the club could enter next season weaker then it was at the end of a difficult 2019/20 season, if something does not change fast.
