Why West Ham should cancel Diangana transfer
3. No Guaranteed Replacement
The club appears likely to try and sign Brentford winger Said Benrahma should the transfer of Diangana go through. Despite being a client of a favoured agent, Will Salthouse, this is not a simple transfer to pull off.

Benrahma is wanted by both Arsenal and Aston Villa, meaning it could be likely that the Hammers could end up in a bidding war for the Algerians signature. If the club fails to win that battle they the team will not only be short on defenders but short on attackers as well.
The other issue a bidding war presents is that it could likely drive the price of Benrahma to a much higher figure than what was received for Diangana. West Ham are in a very weakened state financially and will not be able to afford much more on top of the £18 million received for Diangana.
Furthermore, West Ham needs to be strengthening the defence of the team, selling Diangana and replacing him with a more expensive and older attacker is not helping that objective.
4. Grady Wants To Stay
According to ExWHUemployee, when Diangana found out about the news that a bid had been accepted, it upset him. The attacker wants to remain a Hammer and prove himself at the club where he grew up.
In the days of mercenaries and footballers playing for their wages, should it not be a priority to keep hold of the talented players that love the club they are at? Even if no bids have come in for the players the club wants to sell, that doesn’t then simply mean to sell the ones you wanted to originally keep.
Diangana could still cancel the transfer himself as he is not required to agree to personal terms with West Brom and can simply refuse. The Englishman has a contract that runs until 2025, so he can simply choose to stay at the club and fight to prove his doubters wrong.
The player choosing to stay seems the most likely way Diangana will remain a Hammer. But as the Baggies are so keen and Slaven Bilic knows him well, it could only be a matter of time until they convince Diangana to sign with them.
West Ham fans will be hoping that something changes over the next couple of days that will mean the transfer falls through. But if that does not happen, the people responsible will be under a lot of pressure to show that it was the right decision.
