West Ham linked to former World Cup Winner
The transfer window has been a quiet one for West Ham, but now the club has been linked to former World Cup winner Sami Khedira.
West Ham target Sami Khedira is currently at Juventus and been in Turin over the previous five seasons and since his move from Real Madrid. Khedira is et to have his contract terminated by the Italian giants as he has become surplus to requirements.
Khedira’s availability has alerted plenty of Premier League clubs, West Ham being one of them, who could be about to offer him a contract. The 33-year-old only played eighteen times last season, and any move could be the last of his career.
The former German international plays as a defensive midfielder so there could be a few reasons for West Ham’s interest in him. One reason is that with the potential exit of Jack Wilshere to the MLS, the club could be looking to find an experienced back-up to rotate.

If that was the case and Khedira was signed on reasonable wages, it could be a sensible move if the signing was on a short-term deal, while the club waits for finances to replenish and sign a younger option next summer.
The far more concerning reason would be that some people at the club see Khedira as a short-term replacement for Declan Rice, should he be sold to Chelsea before the window shuts. This would be the pinnacle of bad West Ham transfers.
Replacing the rising star of Rice with a very much faded one in Khedira could be a step too far for Hammers fans. If Rice were to be sold for a fee of around £80 million, fans would expect to see some quality or ambitious replacements come into the club.
Khedira certainly does not fit that bill, nor does he fit the David Moyes ‘Red Bull Model’ philosophy. The only category Khedira fits in is the classic David Gold and David Sullivan player. That is a player who is far past their peak and would command high-wages as they are coming from a big team.
If Khedira was signed as a back-up in place of the injury-prone Wilshere, then there is visible logic. But if he is signed a Rice replacement, then the ‘Hammers United’ group may see a lot more new members join.
