MLS calling for West Ham’s Jack Wilshere?
Jack Wilshere has suffered since his move to West Ham and now could be off to try his luck at reigniting his career across the pond.
When West Ham signed Jack Wilshere, everyone knew the risk they were taking due to his horrific injury record. There was hope though as the season before, Wilshere spent a year on loan at AFC Bournemouth where he played a significant amount of games.
After putting pen to paper at West Ham, however, it quickly became apparent that Wilshere had not miraculously overcome his injury problems. Wilshere has only managed to play eighteen times for the Hammers, scoring once and assisting once.
Currently costing the club approximately £100,000 per week in wages, he must be removed from the wage bill as soon as possible. There could be one avenue that Wilshere is reportedly interested in, and that is the MLS.
The MLS has a history of taking former England internationals such as David Beckham, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney. Wilshere could be the latest ‘big name’ player to make the move across the Atlantic, and it could be a match made in heaven.
Beckham, since retiring from playing football has started his own MLS franchise club called Inter Miami and is on the loom out for marquee players. The East Coast side has already agreed to sign former France international Blaise Matuidi to entice new fans to the club.
As Wilshere is currently fit playing as he did in West Ham’s preseason game against Ipswich Town, it could be the perfect time to sign the Englishman. Should Beckham’s team take a chance on him, they could have an excellent midfielder partnership.
America does seem to have better medical facilities and with no doubt, better training facilities than Rush Green. So a move to the MLS could be Wilshere’s best chance of being able to play regular football again.
It is not likely that the Hammers would be able to command any fee for his transfer even though he is still valued at £4 million on transfermarkt.com. But it would still be worthwhile to clear Wilshere’s enormous wages from the club.
