Since arriving at West Ham, Jordan Hugill has seemed destined to exit through the club’s ever-revolving striker door.

Fans of West Ham had been hoping that if Jordan Hugill were to leave the club, he would be used in a swap deal for QPR’s Eberechi Eze. But now it seems recently relegated Norwich City are close to agreeing on a deal with the Hammers for David Moyes’ first signing at the club.

Last season Hugill was out on loan at QPR and had a solid season the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. The 28-year-old scored fifteen and assisted one more goal in forty-one appearances for QPR. As West Ham are interested in their attacking midfielder, Eze, Hugill could have been a vital make-weight in the deal.

The striker’s inclusion in a deal with QPR could have saved the Hammers some precious finances. It would have also meant that West Ham’s offer may have been more enticing that Crystal Palace or Fulhams potential offers.

This sensible plan of action now appears to be in tatters following Norwich City’s interest in signing Hugill. The Canaries are on the lookout for a new forward to alternate with Teemu Pukki. The Hammers has rejected an offer of £2 million, but it may not be long until an offer comes in closer to the required fee.

Should a fee be agreed on soon and Hugill’s exit is confirmed it will leave the Hammers with only one recognised striker left at the club. Following Abian Ajeti’s exit, last week and Michial Antonio being a winger at heart, Sebastien Haller would be the only out and out striker left.

West Ham could have a master plan in place regarding the Hugill/Eze transfer conundrum. QPR need to correct their finances and may favour an offer that is solely based on straight cash for Eze. QPR may value Hugill at under what Norwich are offering, therefore taking the Canaries offer would make sense.

Overall, it does seem counter-productive selling Hugill to Norwich, but if the transfer fee that he would command is used correctly, it may still be worthwhile.
