Although the reports of some financial issues at the club are concerning, the current West Ham squad does not need much work for next season.

It is never a good situation when hearing about your club struggling financially, and for West Ham, that seems to be the case. The Hammers, along with every football club around the world, have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. Added on to that are some very questionable signings and contracts in the Manuel Pellegrini and Husillos era, and here we are. However, this squad does not need major signings headed into next season.

Although the Hammers were stuck in a relegation battle for much of last season, there is not too much the Hammers can do with their current squad. Bowen and Soucek were great January signings that helped the Hammers stay out of the drop zone, and many of the under-performing players from last season like Anderson and Lanzini will be impossible to offload due to their large wages.

The Hammers now need to work with the limited funds they have and address the key areas of the team that need improving, the full-back positions. Aaron Cresswell and Ryan Fredericks are not going to cut it for the Irons next season. Ben Johnson looks to be a great talent, but if the Hammers want to move up the table and improve, new fullbacks are a must for this team.

There are many inexpensive and young fullbacks throughout Europe that the Hammers have been linked with, and Moyes and the board need to pull the trigger on someone. This situation has not been addressed for some time at the club, and there needs to be more competition and talent in these critical positions.

Although you could argue and nitpick about other areas of the squad needing signings, most of the Irons 2020-2021 squad is set in stone. The club has invested heavily in many players who quite simply just need to perform better next season. If the fullback positions can be addressed, the Hammers should be in for a quality season next year.
