Borini, a West Ham panic buy if there ever was one
Supposedly cash-strapped West Ham have now been linked to signing former Sunderland attacker Borini to kick start the transfer window.
According to Calcio Mercato David Moyes is interested in bring Fabio Borini to West Ham, boosting his attacking options at West Ham. The Italian is currently a free agent after his contract with Italian side Hellas Verona came to an end at the end of the season.
Borini only joined Verona in January after he was allowed to leave AC Milan. The forward played eleven times scoring three goals for the “I Gialloblu”. Previously, Borini has played in England before, for Chelsea, Liverpool and Sunderland, the Black Cats is where he was most successful.
As an attacker records go, the 29-year-olds is not the most impressive. Borini scored sixteen goals and assisted only six more in 107 Premier League appearances. Since leaving England in 2017, the Italian has been a rotational player at AC Milan, until his short stint with Verona.

Any move for Borini doesn’t really make sense for West Ham. The Hammers stacked for ageing attackers. Michail Antonio and Andriy Yarmolenko are only a year older than Borini but are by far the superior options.
If West Ham were to invest in a new attacker, it would be to replace someone who is leaving the club. The most likely attackers to leave are Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and maybe Sebastien Haller. If Borini is seen as a like for like replacement for any of those players, something has gone seriously wrong. The fees those players would command if sold, it should allow West Ham to invest in a proper replacement like Eberechi Eze of Said Benrahma.
Then club is also said to be targeting defenders at the moment, as that is the weakest part of the first-team. Hammers fans are desperate to see the club sign some promising defenders, such as Matty Cash or Rico Henry be invested in by the club and Borini is almost the complete opposite.
There is already some fan unrest brewing with the lack of activity being made by the club following the disappointment that was last season. If the club does push ahead and sign Borini, it shows a lack of anything that could be seen as inspiration from the Hammers. Despite only signing Tomas Soucek so far this window, Borini should not be the next one.
