Although the Hammers are being linked with many young and exciting attacking prospects from the Championship, the Hammers should remember they have a few of their own.
As a fan of any Premier League club, new signings are always exciting. A way to add to your squad, strengthen weak areas of the previous squad, and allow for the manager to really put his squad together in a way that he envisions success. However, for this window, the Hammers may want to be a bit more cautious and really think about what kind of players they may want to invest in.
The Hammers main two transfer targets that they have been linked with thus far and two incredibly skilled attackers from the Championship. Saïd Benrahma, a winger from Brentford with great skill, and Eberechi Eze, a forward player from QPR who could add a great deal of pace to the Hammers attack. Although both look like great players, I would argue that these types of players should not be West Ham’s priority targets right now.
Nathan Holland is coming off of another impressive season in the PL2, with 18 goal contributions in 13 appearances. Believe it or not, Holland is already 22 years old, and now should be the time where he gets a run with the first team to see what he is really made of. People in and around West Ham have been raving about Holland for years, it’s time to see him get a shot.
Grady Diangana is coming off of a great loan spell at West Brom, where the Baggies secured automatic promotion in large part due to Diangana’s great season. The midfielder was quality in attack and helped Super Slav’s men get back to the Premier League with 15 goal contributions in 30 appearances. Once again, Diangana should be given a run with the first team as well.
Although flashy attackers look and sound good on paper, the fact is that the Hammers have a bunch of young attackers at their disposal that if played regularly, would be like new signings for the club.
Due to the reports of a lack of cash that the club currently has leading to a quieter window, I would say that Moyes and the board should use the budget to help fix up the backline, with a few fullbacks and a new center-back being the key positions of investment.
