West Ham will need to buy a striker this offseason to replenish their centre-forward depth, a raid of Huddersfield Town in the Championship could provide the ideal candidate.

The perfectly fitting striker has been elusive for West Ham in their history, but better and more wise investment could see this issue resolved. With untested and still underwhelming striker Albian Ajeti on his way out this summer, the Hammers will need to reinvest in a replacement.

Instead of dishing out cash on deadline day for an unknown international striker like  Ajeti, scout and source from the Championship for a player who knows is young, hungry, knows the EFL, and one who fits your team… like Karlan Grant.

The Huddersfield forward was electric this season in a year that proved to be a bit of a rollercoaster for the Terriers. Ending the season safe from relegation by only three points, Huddersfield sacked the Cowley brothers’ management team to end the season.

Despite the turmoil, Grant scored 19 goals in 44 games and added in four assists, good enough for fifth in the Championship, one spot ahead of highly touted Said Benrahma of Brentford. His finishing is natural and instinctive, with Grant getting himself into dangerous areas by not quitting on the play and by also reading through balls extremely well.

He is just 22 years old, but Grant has plenty of experience. As mentioned, he had a terrific season this year but also has Premier League experience under his belt, too. He joined Huddersfield Town in January of 2019, amidst their relegation battle they would eventually lose.

Hammers fans will remember him well, though, as Grant scored twice against West Ham in a ridiculously entertaining 4-3 loss to the Irons. Grant showed off his deft finishing with a perfectly slotted first-time finish for his first, and a wonderful shot from range to score his second.

Grant isn’t afraid to shoot from range, get central for an aerial battle, or drift wide and overlap with his wingers. This year he played 26 matches as a leftwinger and 18 as a striker, producing from both positions very well. His versatility would be a massive plus to extra squad depth.

At West Ham, Grant would be the ideal player to sit beside Sebastien Haller as a secondary striker. His speed running the channels would be a huge plus, and his ability to pass and assist goals would surely increase Haller’s production as well.

Hammers’ insider ExWHUemployee dropped a hint that Grant is a target for the Hammers should they fail to attract Ollie Watkins or Alexsandar Mitrovic as first-tier options. In my opinion, West Ham should target and purchase Grant before even looking at the other two players. Either could earn promotion and would likely stay with their team, while the non-promoted player would garner massive attention.

West Ham could do some great, cheap business in nabbing Grant early. This player fits Moyes’ mould for a young and hungry player that can grow in this team to a regular Premier League player and leader on the squad. Karlan Grant – remember the name; a natural goal scorer would be a massive and underrated addition to this West Ham team!
