Nathan Holland has deservedly been named West Ham’s 2019/20 Young Hammer of the year after a brilliant season for the attacker.

West Ham’s Holland has remarkable last twelve months across Premier League 2 and his League one. The 22-year-old was arguably the best player in Premier League 2. The young Hammer lost out to Player of the Season to Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.

This is despite the fact Holland scored 12 goals and assisted six in only thirteen appearances. Holland was the joint highest goalscorer, only matched by former Hammer Anthony Scully.  The Irishman has since moved to Lincoln City to try and further his career.

Unlike Scully, Holland has remained a Hammer but did leave temporarily. Oxford United took the young winger on loan for the second half of the season. Holland played twelve times for Oxford scoring three times in an impressive stint at the club. The three goals included a screamer against Newcastle in the FA Cup.

Holland has shown that he is capable of producing some fantastic football and should be an option for David Moyes once the 2020/21 season starts. Especially as some of West Ham’s highest earners failed to perform consistently and this could give Holland a chance to prove himself in the first XI.

Player’s like Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini are up for sale to raise funds for the club. If these three were to leave the club, it could pave the way for Holland to make his way into the first-team. Another bonus for Holland is the uncertainty surrounding Grady Diangana. The 22-year-old is still to decide his future as West Brom are interested in turning his loan into a permanent deal.

Holland has many fans already, and if he gets given an excellent opportunity to show why. It will be inevitable that he will win over a lot more. The 22-year-old has a lot of potential and will be able to shine on the biggest stage once his time comes.
