West Ham chasing Manchester United right-back
West Ham has been linked to signing Manchester United’s young right-back Diogo Dalot on loan for the 2020-21 season.
The 2019-2020 season may have only just ended, but it has prompted the opening of the summer transfer window. West Ham has already made their first signing, Tomas Soucek. The Czech midfielder has become a permanent hammer and now the club appears to be on the move again.
Over the course of the 2019-2020 season, the Hammers were consistently exposed defensively due to their weak full-back options. On the left-side, Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku have been far too inconsistent and have lacked defensive aptitude at times costing the side.
On the right-side however, the Hammers have lost Pablo Zabaleta due to his contract running out and Ryan Fredericks has become to injury-prone to be relied on. West Ham does have young Ben Johnson at their disposal, but more reinforcements are needed.
It appears that the right-back spot is going to be the first to be addressed. Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot has been suggested as the answer to solving these issues.
Dalot has been at United for the last two seasons, since signing from Porto for £19 million as a 19-year-old. The Portuguese full-back has found chances for regular football hard to come by due to injuries and the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
When Dalot has been given a chance he has impressed. Especially when you consider he is still very young, 21-years-old, and playing in a foreign country and will still be adapting to the league and culture.
A loan move would suit all parties, West Ham would benefit by bringing in a promising player who could solve many issues next season. The Hammers would also not damage their budget massively with a loan move. Especially, as there are with rumours that manager David Moyes is going to have a very minimal budget for the transfer window.
Dalot would benefit as he would surely be able to gain more minutes on the pitch. This would allow Dalot to adapt to the English game quicker, improving himself as a more rounded full-back and player.
United would benefit as they could be returned a better player who could challenge first choice Wan-Bissaka for a spot in the starting line-up. On the other hand, is Dalot does well he could play himself into the shop window ahead of a permanent move next summer when the market normalises. Therefore United could even be able to sell him and recoup or even make a profit on Dalot.
A move for Dalot seems to make a lot of sense for everyone, especially on loan. West Ham fans know how much the current ownership favour a chance to see a payer before they buy.
