After finally confirming their spot in the Premier League for the 2020-21 season, West Ham has announced the official signing of midfielder Tomas Soucek.

The Summer transfer window is still yet to open but West Ham has made the perfect start to it by confirming the permanent signing of Soucek. The Czech midfielder was initially signed on loan during the January transfer window. The deal with SK Slavia Prague included the obligation to buy Soucek and keep him on a permanent basis, should the Hammers survive relegation.

There was a touch of confusion over Soucek’s original loan, as there had to be an agreement to extend it past its original end date due to the Coronavirus pandemic and pause of football. The extension to his loan seemed no issue and was quickly wrapped up.

Soucek had already proved himself to the West Ham faithful before the lockdown, but he has taken his game to another level since footballs restart. The 25-year-old has been immense in the heart of the West Ham midfield, forming a solid partnership with Declan Rice.

The Czech player of the year is not only brilliant defensively, but he has contributed to the Hammers attack. Soucek has become a focal point for cross and corners, he has scored three goals since the restart, all proving to be vital for West Ham’s relegation fight. Soucek has been unlucky that he only has three goals, he has been thwarted by VAR against Chelsea and also some magnificent goalkeeping.

Soucek’s impact has not just been on the pitch but he has settled within the club effortlessly. The leadership qualities have transferred from being captain at SK Slavia Prague could make him a natural choice for captain should Mark Noble retire and if Declan Rice were to be sold.

West Ham fans will love to know that Soucek has signed a four-year-deal keeping him at the club until 2024. Soucek’s first game as a full West Ham player will be in the season-closing game against Aston Villa on Sunday.
