West Ham has struggled in the full-back positions all season, and look set to invest in younger talent to resolve these issues.

Current West Ham full-backs Aaron Cresswell, Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masuaku have all proven to be too inconsistent. The Hammers have had one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League this season and most of this is down to the failings of the full-backs.

Cresswell and Masuaku have both cost West Ham at times this season through their own failings at left-back. Most recently Cresswell was at fault for Burnley’s winning goal in their 1-0 win over the Hammers at the London Stadium.

These holes in the Hammers defence could be fixed soon as the club could be turning to young American full-back Antonee Robinson. Currently at Wigan Atheltic, the 22-year-old could be available for a cut-throat price.

Wigan is currently in administration and undergoing huge financial stress and are looking for a new owner. The Hammers could benefit from Latics hardship and swoop in for the impressive defender.

There is currently a valuation of £10 million for Robinson which is what AC Milan was willing to pay for him in January. The Telegraph has reported that there is a £1.5 million relegation clause in his contract if Wigan were to be relegated from the Championship, which is looking likely.

Robinson has had a far better defensive season then Cresswell. According to Whoscored.com, the Wigan man has better tackles, interceptions, clearances and blocks over the course of the season then the Hammers stalwart.

Despite being eight years Cresswell’s junior, Robinson is showing experience beyond his years. The American could be ready to make the step up to the Premier League and slot into a new-look backline.

Robinson fits into David Moyes’ new transfer philosophy that he is hoping to instil into the club. Moyes wants to sign younger players from the lower leagues who are hungry and want to fight for the club and not just collect a paycheck.
