West Ham vs Tottenham: Preview and GSH predictions
GSH Staff Predictions:
Henry, Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 West Ham United
I always like to be optimistic and predict West Ham to get a positive result but after the Wolves performance, it will be difficult. Tottenham played very well for seventy minutes against Manchester United and a similar level of performance against the Hammers will put Spurs out of sight.
The news from David Moyes that Haller and Snodgrass will is the game will be massive losses. Snodgrass’ versatility is vital in these manic matches, whereas the absence of Haller will mean Antonio playing as a lone striker again.
West Ham’s hope could come if Moyes mixes up the side and gives Bowen or Ajeti a chance upfront. Antonio has proved time and time again he is most useful off the bench against tired defences and that should be the tactic against Spurs.
Louis, Tottenham 2-0 West Ham
I know that we have faired well against Spurs in recent seasons, and with any luck that will happen again, but I think that this time it’s a bridge too far.
After our woeful display on Saturday, any of the optimism I had going into the final stretch of the season has diminished, and I simply get the impression that the players – bar one or two – don’t care enough to put maximum effort into these fixtures. I hope to be proven wrong.
Mourinho’s Spurs are nothing special, and with the right tactics and intent from Moyes, there’s no reason why we couldn’t come away with a point or three.
I’m predicting the same scoreline to the Wolves game, however, as the possibility of relegation gets even higher.
Adam, Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 West Ham United
I think I’m being rather kind here to the Hammers, but based on the showing against Wolves there isn’t much to be excited about a team that doesn’t want to show up when their backs are against the wall with relegation on the cards.
I wouldn’t count out West Ham from getting a miraculous result against their bitter cross-town rivals, but there are just too many passengers on this team right now. If there is a miracle result I’d give goals to Bowen and Ogbonna (if he features).
I really don’t have the usual bubbly faith I do in my Hammers right now, though, as Wolves was a disheartening loss.
Jay, Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 West Ham United
The Hammers need this game more and should be ready to give their all in this one. Although the injury bug has hit the squad, West Ham still has enough players in the XI that have enough experience and playing time against Spurs to know what it takes to get a result.
I think Bowen and Fornals get on the scoresheet, as the Hammers come up with a huge away win and all three points.
Justin, Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 West Ham United
West Ham’s lifeless performance against Wolves on the weekend gives me no hope they can pull something out of this one. West Ham has been pretty successful against Tottenham, including scoring the first away goal and win in their new stadium.
However, I would say West Ham thrive off the crowd support for those good performances. There will be no such support for this match. That, combined with the fact West Ham looked lost and without a plan against Wolves, I don’t see the turnaround necessary to get anything against this Spurs side.
Aaron, Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 West Ham United
It really didn’t take long for all of the positivity to disappear from the West Ham world. One dismal effort and the familiar pattern of optimism, disappointment and convincing yourself to believe again is in mid-season form.
If all of us at Green Street Hammers were having difficulties predicting the line-up and formation before the Wolves match due to the extended break and secrecy involving the build-up then its safe to say that this past Saturday provided more questions than answers.
Normally, the charged up atmosphere of a London Derby would give me the confidence of the players upping their game and getting a result in North London. Now I’m not so sure, but as more of a supporter than a pundit, I’ll predict that if Haller and Ogbonna are fit enough to play then we see a much more composed squad on the pitch and grind out a 1-1 result. There’s nothing like knee jerk reacting off of one game to make predictions on the next! After the return of the Premier League and West Ham, the eyeball test said the Hammer’s efforts on Saturday were definitely in the bottom three. Now with the London Derby coming against Spurs, David Moyes needs to find some answers and quick.
Namely, where are the goals and goal threats going to come from? Heading into the restart WHU was fit and on paper had as much attacking depth as available in quite some time. What a difference a week and a game make. Without Sebastian Haller to play at centre forward, the invisible Filipe Anderson in the number 10 role and largely ineffective wingers Fornals and Bowen a case could be made to change it all up heading into this one.
But, I doubt Moyes sees it the same as I do. What I do see, until the club proves me otherwise, is lacklustre effort, lack of goal scoring, and lack of intensity. Not a recipe for winning football. The only equalizer here is that the club does almost always find a way to turn up vs Spurs.
They won their first match at Spurs’ new stadium last year. I don’t see it this time around. Better effort hopefully but still a loss.
Jeremiah, Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 West Ham United
The initial optimism from West Ham football being back was quickly squelched after a disappointing match last Saturday. Facing off against Spurs is always a tough matchup, and it can go either way. However, in this instance, not so much. The Spuds are faster and just looked all-round better last time out.
If last week had any inclination on Tuesday’s matchup, West Ham should struggle. They lacked pace, commitment, and drive. If they don’t change anything, this match won’t even be worth tuning into.
A mixed bag of predictions, but mostly slanted towards a Spurs victory which is to be expected. West Ham, however, can sometimes spring a surprise, so let’s hope for one on Tuesday evening.
