West Ham Player Grades: Individual errors vs Wolves
After all of the excitement of the first West Ham match back, the match was anything but. West Ham looked tired all match and never stayed with Wolves.
That showing from West Ham was nothing but disappointing. 100+ days of waiting, all came down to individual errors and slow running by the Hammers. If David Moyes needed anything, it was a big match here. That didn’t happen, and the player grades show just that.
West Ham Player Grades Rated 0 to 10
Fabianski
Grade: 6
Reliable at best to start the match. Lukasz Fabianski did everything he could for the first half, just being in the right spots. It all fell apart in the second, but not all of it was on him.
Ngakia subbed off in the 80th minute
Grade: 4
If Jeremy Ngakia was trying to show he was worth more money, he didn’t show it at the start. He picked it up after the first 30 minutes, but still just a sad story in the making.
Fredericks subbed on for Ngakia
Subbed Grade: 3
5 minutes after getting on the pitch, and he misses his man, and lets Wolves go up by 2 late. Not a good showing from Ryan Fredericks, and with so much at stake.
West Ham Player Grades: Individual errors vs. Wolves
Diop
Grade: 3
A quiet and disappointing afternoon for the French center back. The mantra of Issa Diop being out shadowed by his CB partner happened again today, and he looked like he forgot how to mark.
Rice
Grade: 7
Declan Rice was back to his old stomping grounds on Saturday afternoon playing next to Diop. Stable and consistent as usual, but he needed more help than what he was given.
Cresswell
Grade: 6
After winning the start at left-back, Aaron Cresswell very rarely came alive. The second half saw him up against Traore, and he was left gasping for air.
Soucek
Grade: 6
Like the little (more like massive) engine that could, Tomas Soucek was everywhere in this match. However, it wasn’t enough, and even he looked rusty at times.
Noble
Grade: 6
Mr. West Ham got his spot back in this match but looked alone in the middle. Besides Soucek, Mark Noble looked like he was on an island. Try with all his might; he couldn’t get the boys going.
Fornals subbed off in the 80th minute
Grade: 6
With probably the chance of the match for West Ham, Pablo Fornals missed horrifically early on in the first half. Besides that, he went quiet and eventually subbed out.
Yarmolenko subbed on for Fornals
Subbed Grade: 5
Andriy Yarmolenko won a few headers in the match, but that was all he could do in the fading minutes of the second half. Big opportunity, small showing.
Anderson subbed off in the 67th minute
Grade: 5
Felipe Anderson had the chance to make this match his coming out party. Instead, he continued to be a shell of his old self, showing very little.
Lanzini subbed on for Anderson
Subbed Grade: 4
Besides being bully over by Traore, Manuel Lanzini stayed off of the commentator’s lips his entire time on the pitch. Another case of potential, but slipped it away.
Bowen
Grade: 5
Jarrod Bowen was calm, quietly there for most of the match, yet he never really got going. The layoff stifled his fast start, and the rust showed today.
Antonio
Grade: 5
Besides a close chance late in the match, Michail Antonio did very little besides winning a few races. West Ham needed him to show up, but alas, he couldn’t do much, especially being on his own.
WhoScored.com gave the Hammers a 6.29 after the Wolves match, but even that seems a bit high. Disappointment is only one of the words used to describe this woeful match. Hopefully, West Ham can turn it up; otherwise, they could have a long final stretch to end the season.
