The Premier League is set to return this week, this will provide some struggling West Ham players with a fresh start to prove themselves.

West Ham has had a very disappointing 2019/20 campaign, some of the Hammers top signings have failed to produce expected performances consistently.  The failure of the team to keep a consistent level has seen the East London club in the midst of a relegation fight.

This relegation fight did not seem possible at the start of the season, West Ham started the season well. The Hammers won three of their first six games and it was thought they would be competing for the European places.

The positivity of the club’s early form was quickly squashed. A big injury to current Hammer of the Year Lukasz Fabianski highlighted the club’s reliance on him between the sticks. Fabianski was replaced by Spanish goalkeeper Roberto, who took the responsibility and failed bitterly.

Roberto’s run of appearances coincided with West Hams turn of form. The Hammers are still playing catch-up, after dropping far too many points during Fabianski’s three-month lay-off.

West Ham was not helped by other key players losing form. Players such as Fabian Balbuena, Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini have been shadows of their former selves. Balbuena had not recovered from playing in the Copa America, meaning his partnership with Diop failed to reproduce the solidity they had last season.

Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini have failed to produce at the other end of the pitch. Anderson was one of the club’s best players last season and needs to start to show his best again. Lanzini on the other hand still seems to be having a mental block since his ACL injury two years ago.

Some players can hold their head up despite the clubs poor season. Pablo Fornals, Robert Snodgrass and Angelo Ogbonna have been the most consistent players at the club this season. Although, there are still a lot of players at the club that need to step up and prove themselves in the remaining nine games of the season.
