Using FIFA 20’s game sounds as backdrop noise might be the answer for West Ham and the rest of the EPL when football returns.

What’s funny, is that we typically associate West Ham and FIFA with some malaise, and not in consideration for something good. Wailing and groaning about player ratings or how well the FIFA squad plays in comparison to real-life is a typical dialogue piece. Using game noise in the background, however, is not.

With the restart of the EPL season just a week away, it appears that West Ham, the EPL, and a few other leagues in Europe will be turning towards the video game for that usage. According to The Mail, this will be the league’s preference starting next week. Weirdly, FIFA has used West Ham to get their sounds; now, the Hammers might be using FIFA in return.

It may seem strange, but in all actuality, the simulated sounds will sound better than a silent, almost eerie, London Stadium. You could joke, it might even sound better for some clubs than their actual fans, but for West Ham, it will be different.

West Ham could be using FIFA 20 in a weird way when football returns.

The German Bundesliga and other leagues have been playing for over a month now, and the continued ideas of how to make things less weird have been nothing short of crazy. From putting kits on dummies and putting cardboard cutouts in the stands, this might be the best idea yet.

The FIFA sounds, in conjunction with pictures of fans spread throughout the London Stadium, will, at least in some way, help the players feel at home. If you think it’s weird watching football with no fans, imagine playing in front of no one. Instead of a glorified practice match with season and table implications, this idea will undoubtedly add more to an already soulless and empty stadium.
