With West Ham joining the rest of the Premier League in full contact training this past week, the club seem to have implemented a little training trick.

It is reported that David Moyes has started to conduct West Ham training inside the London Stadium. The catch? Players are training while wearing full match kits.

The goal for the unique training method is to get the players used to playing matches behind closed doors by mimicking the matchday experience as much as possible. Training has involved full-contact matches between the first team lasting around 60 minutes. Moyes has also occasionally paused these matches to give directives to the players.

It seems as though Moyes’ tactic is an inventive one as other clubs throughout England plan on conducting a similar style of training session in the weeks to come. Even former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan gave praise to the “clever” Scottish manager.

"“It is very smart, a great idea. West Ham need to hit the ground running because they are in trouble.”"

The reaction from Hammers’ fans has been mixed, but many have followed Whelan’s lead, praising the Scotsman for the decision. And if the Bundesliga is any indication, West Ham will need every advantage possible. Home teams have only collected 34 points from the 36 matches played since the German league’s return.

Next. West Ham are returning and the GSH staff can’t wait. dark

West Ham will not have to wait long to test out Moyes’ training tactics. The club’s first match back will be against Wolves at the London Stadium during the weekend of June 19-21.
