Manuel Lanzini has gone from being one of West Ham’s best players to someone incredibly out of form. Lanzini, however, has decided to start scouting for the Hammers.

The Argentinean midfielder has suggested that the West Ham should try and sign River Plater full-back Gonzalo Montiel. The Hammers could be in the market for a new right-back as Pablo Zabaleta is going to be leaving the club at the end of his contract. Additionally, Ryan Fredericks has proved to be quite injury prone and inconsistent at times.

If those two senior players left West Ham it would only lave the club with impressive youngster Ben Johnson and Jeremy Ngakia. Though the two have shown promise, it could be wise for the club to sign a new right-back in case they aren’t ready for the jump to being the first choice just yet.

So would Lanzini’s recommendation be a good fit for West Ham? Well, Montiel is an attacking right-back who can get forward and create chances for teammates, shown in his three assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.

The 23-year-old also shows defensive capabilities, he has played his part in eight of River Plates nine clean sheets this season. Montiel is very good defensively and is comfortable with the ball at his feet and playing good passes, making him a decent outlet from the defence. Speaking to Olé Lanzini sang Montiel’s praises

"“I think Montiel would fit in well at West Ham. I know they looked for him and couldn’t bring him in, he asked me and I spoke to him."

Montiel has been capped four times by the Argentina national side, as he is highly thought of in his homeland. The fact he has played for his national side means that the Hammers will have an easier time attaining a work permit for him. Lanzini may have found West Ham thee heir the Zabaleta for club and country.

Lanzini carried on in his interview to suggest that Montiel would fit into David Moyes system well.

"“The coach (Moyes) likes him. He likes to play with three or five defenders.”"

Currently valued at £7.2 million, he would be a relatively conservative investment. Especially when compared to other right-backs the club has been linked to, such as Matty Cash who could cost upwards of £12 million.
