West Ham has endured a difficult season with players underperforming and manager upheaval. The Hammers will be desperate need of reinforcements for when football finally returns to the world. If rumours are to be believed, clever business is being planned, if they sign reportedly linked Teun Koopmeiners.

The Dutchman has had a very impressive season captaining AZ Alkmaar. Koopmeiners has scored sixteen goals and assisted a further three in 42 appearances in all competitions, he clearly has the ability to score. This is a trait West Ham need to add to their midfield, Snodgrass has scored the goals for the Hammers with only five.

Despite the stats, the 22-year-old is actually a defensive midfielder. He is brilliant at marshalling the defensive side of football. Teun Koopmeiners can even fill in as a centre-back adding to his portfolio. Koopmieners averages over two tackles and one interception every 90 minutes, teamed with his attacking output he could be a brilliant addition to the Hammers side.

Of course, the Eredivisie is not the same quality as the Premier League, it would take some time for Koopmieners to adjust to the speed of English football. This could lead to the dutchman’s starting role at West Ham could be coming off the bench and rotating in and out of the starting eleven.

Koopmeiners would have to compete with Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, Mark Noble, Robert Snodgrass and (if fit) Jack Wilshere to get into the team. This will not be a problem for the Netherlands U21 international, the potential he shows could lead to Wilshere’s exit, knocking him out of the running.

Snodgrass is now 32-years-old and could start to decline over the next season or two so it would be good for the club to be prepared for his exit. Mark Noble, Mr. West Ham, sadly has shown his age more frequently over the last couple of seasons and the club must have a ready-made replacement for when that day comes.

Koopmeiners is also clinical from the spot, just like Mr. West Ham, as shown in this video AZ Alkmaar published to their youtube.

Koopmieners has captained AZ Alkmaar showing ability beyond his years, he has built himself into a formidable force in Dutch football. The 22-year-old could be a future partner to Frenkie De Jong in the Dutch midfield becoming a force on the International stage.

According to TransferMarkt.com Koopmieners is only valued at £13 million, a snip for West Ham and should be a no brainer for the club. The Hammers could face competition for the youngster from Everton and others, but it’s a competition the club must win to sign the future star.
