With all the recent talk about who many leave the club this summer, Sebastien Haller should be off-limits, even after a rough first season in East London.
It is starting to look very clear that next season, West Ham will look way different than this year. The Hammers have a ton of players who look like they could leave or be sold on by the club, and this process will likely be aided by the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic has put a lot of club in a bit of financial trouble. That being said, Sebastien Haller should be kept at all costs.
Yes, it was a very up and down season for West Ham’s new striker in his first season in the Premier League. Haller was very inconsistent all year, in part due to a lack of service, but even without the best supporting cast, Haller needs to be better. His effort was not always there some match-days, which is all we demand as fans, to play for the badge and give it 100% each and every day.
It was not all doom and gloom for Haller though, who stunned us this year with some incredible goals and skills. I think it’s very clear, at least to this West Ham fan, that Haller is one of, if not the, most talented player in the West Ham dressing room, he just needs to put it all together. The Premier League is the hardest league to adapt too, and the most competitive in the world. If Haller can start to gain some familiarity and confidence in the league, we could see a totally different animal next season wearing the claret and blue.
With rumours flying around about the futures of the Hammers stars like Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini, Haller should not be placed in the same category. Yes, all three players struggled this past season, but Lanzini has been rumoured to want to move on for a while now, and Anderson may be a financial casualty for the club. Haller needs more time to prove himself.
Overall, the club will have the final say on what they want to do with Haller, but I would be very disappointed to see him go in such a short time. I think he is a skillful and powerful player that is capable of taking the Hammers to where they want to be in the table next season.
