An important area for West Ham this off-season will be the left-back role and finding a suitor for Arthur Masuaku should be right at the top of the list.

To some, this move might seem easy and to others, it might seem questionable due to the lack of left-backs at West Ham currently. As only Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell are listed on the depth chart, what are the Hammers to do?

I will open my case with this, selling off Masuaku will free up some much-needed cash for the Hammers to work with. He may only be worth around £5.7m… but he still has some good football left in the tank being that he’s only 26 years old. He may be the younger of the two left-backs, but he shows a lesser amount of influence going forward.

Speaking on influencing the squad, what has he done lately? Besides being a solid crosser and attacker earlier in the season, he has done very little compared to his counterpart in Cresswell. A big question mark coming up for West Ham will be leadership and selling off Cress over Masuaku just doesn’t make sense.

With a few promising youngsters exceeded at left-back in the Championship and globally, this is the time to swipe someone up and ship Arthur off. That might be against everything we talk about when the topic of Premier League familiarity comes up, but he’s fun his course here in East London and its time to get a new face in, one to take over for Cresswell in a few years from now.

Finally, losing his potential for on and off the field screw-ups would be a plus. Look no further than a few pointless red cards or his self claimed positional desires (that seem only true to him)… do I need to say more? He is a bag of dynamite just waiting to explode and that is that last thing West Ham needs at the moment.

There are some good memories and in fact, I am sure that he will be in a few highlight plays for years to come but his time is now. He still has potential and that will keep up his value for others and well… seemingly his time is just done here and West Ham needs to sell him off.
